Step Three reminds us to focus on God and all things of God. When we do this, we become less focused on ourselves and our troubles and can see God's transformation in us. We look to Him to direct us, rather than our own selfish wants and wishes. Life is so much better when we live this way, with fewer consequences due to poor choices we make when we are thinking selfishly. Life will never be perfect here on this earth, but when we live for God and think about Him in all we do, life is definitely better!
A life lived well with fewer stressors helps us resist the urge to eat unhealthy food, which can lead to overeating. I often have wanted what I thought was best, but had to live with what was offered to me instead. Acceptance of the things we can't change is crucial to a healthy mindset which also helps us avoid overeating. Life doesn't always seem fair, but I have found that sometimes I am better off when I don't get my way than when I do. Trusting in God and accepting what we can't change is such an important process in our recovery from overeating!
