Step 6: Release & Heal with God's Grace

What’s Holding You Back From Freedom?

In addition to the food, sometimes what’s really keeping us stuck are the patterns we cling to — fear, resentment, perfectionism, self-pity, procrastination. The list is long, and it’s exhausting.

Step Six of the 12 Steps asks us to become entirely ready to have God remove all of our defects of character.

Not some of them.

Not the ones we’re okay letting go of.

All of them.

It’s not about fixing ourselves — it’s about surrender.

Just like we surrendered control in Step Three, here we surrender the baggage we’ve carried for far too long.

Yes, some of these character defects felt like they protected us. But in truth, they’ve only hurt us. And if we don’t let them go, they’ll keep us bound to the patterns that led us back to the food.

🎯 Real recovery means going deeper.

Not just treating symptoms, but addressing the root.

Not just saying, “I want to change,” but telling God, “I’m willing to let YOU change me.”

And here’s the beauty of it:

♦ When we surrender resentment, God gives us peace.

♦ When we surrender fear, He gives us courage.

♦ When we surrender guilt, He gives us grace.

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10

Recovery isn’t about becoming perfect — it’s about becoming willing.

💬 I'd love to know — what’s one area where you're learning to let go and let God?
