Overcoming Fear in Your Food Recovery Journey

Writer: Julie KleinhansJulie Kleinhans

Have you ever felt stuck in the cycle of overeating, knowing you need to change but feeling like you just don’t have the strength? Fear, discouragement, and doubt can make it feel impossible to break free. But God never intended for us to fight this battle alone.

Joshua 1:9 reminds us: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

God calls us to be strong and courageous—not in our own willpower, but in His strength. And that truth applies to our struggles with food, emotional eating, and breaking free from addiction.

For many years, I was trapped in a cycle of overeating. I tried countless diets, only to fail again and again. The fear of failure kept me from seeking help. I worried, What if I fail again? What if people judge me? But when I surrendered my struggle to God and leaned into His strength, everything changed.

If you’ve been battling food addiction, emotional eating, or struggling to lose weight for years, I want to encourage you today: You don’t have to do this alone. At Reshape and Recover, we offer Christ-centered support in a safe, judgment-free space.

🌿 Here are three small but courageous steps you can take today:

✔ Pray before meals, asking God for wisdom in your food choices.

✔ Take one step toward accountability—whether it’s sharing with a trusted friend or joining a support group.

✔ Replace self-doubt with God’s truth. Remind yourself: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Victory is possible! I’ve maintained a 90-pound weight loss for 17 years, and I’ve seen many others find freedom, too. If you’re ready to take a step toward real, lasting change, I’d love to help.
