Christ-Centered Weight Loss: Perseverance on the Path to Contentment


Have you ever thought that if you could just get to the perfect weight, you would be happy? Reality is that as humans, we are never fully satisfied with who we are, what we look like, and our circumstances in life. Enter God, and we can learn to be happy, like the apostle Paul, who had learned to be happy in all situations. Philippians 4:11-13 says, "for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength."


When we concentrate on the weight loss, we will find it more difficult to be content, which can actually lead to overeating. Instead, let's focus on Jesus and God's best for us will become apparent. Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV) says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."


So let's run this race with perseverance, focusing on Jesus and not on weight or other things of this world. As we make eating healthy a habit, we will see the weight come off. We will find that when we take care of our temple that is our body, which God gave us to take care of wisely, the weight will take care of itself. Pray for strength daily and this can happen for you!
