Choosing Joy Over Food

When we focus on joy, we will find that our troubles seem to melt away. When we are focused on joy, we are also less likely to overeat. Starting your day with prayer is the foundation for finding joy. Start your prayer with praise to God for all He has done for us, and ask Him to give us the willingness and strength to stay away from our binge foods and not overeat. Also ask God to help you find - and spread - joy. When we spread joy to others, finding patience and kindness to all, we will find that joy returns to us.

Writing a gratitude list every day can also help us find joy. A grateful heart does not overeat! Focusing on our blessings brings us peace and joy.

Also, don't let anger steal your joy! Remembering that we all sin and fall short of perfection can help us avoid anger. When we remember that we are also a sinner forgiven by the grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we can let go of our anger and give it to God. Doing a written 4th Step can help with this too. Writing about our anger, what caused it, how we were affected by it, and our part in it, can help us let go so anger does not turn to resentment and bitterness, which robs us of joy.

Finding joy in our lives can help us in so many ways - even with our choice to avoid our binge foods and eat healthy. God's blessings to you as you look for this joy.
